Disney's Break Through

By this illustration, my aim is not to criticize the misleading messages Mr Disney has discretely included in our much beloved Disney animated movies. These are not as easy to spot with a mere glimpse, however, if you do, you'll find that Disney illustrations have quite presumptuous connotations. As I said, this is not the reason behind this post, but I'm not far off track. Black, white and passion red.  Keeping it simple with a prevalent monochromatic colour pallet, my intention is to portray the present pop-stars who used to be featured in well-know Disney chick-flick series. That's basically the inspiration that pushed me to enhance such an illustration.

Recently, Miley Cirus launched her musical video: We can't stop. Now, I recall her as Hanna Montana, a teenager who lived two lives: as well as being a super-star, she was bound to live a "normal girl's" day-to-day routine. I found it quite entertaining then, I must say. However, as many of my childhood Disney actresses, Miley Cyrus did not stay stranded in that girly world where a cheesy smile and a subtle giggle was seemingly cute and a flirting technique: she grew out of it. Many times criticized by her daringly seductive attitude in her video-clips, she has become a different version of Miley, achieving, as a result, a new audience and a spot in a new world.

In her latest music video you can see that the outfits, as well as the eccentric settings, are basically composed by a pallet of whites and blacks, and a much appreciated range of textures. Miley appears dressed in edgy outfits and striking red lips. This picture is not her portrait, just a result of what her image has transmitted to me.

Hope you like it!

Summer Equinox

Summer is no longer a scent that lingers amongst efimerous desires. This time of year has finally become the gourmet aperitif that i've been nibling at since yesterday. To be exact, I was free since 16.30 (spanih time) yetserday afternoon, after taking my last Selectividad exam ( which would be the equivalent to A levels).

Right this instant, strays of sunshine brush my skin whilst  trying to digest the fact that I have finally reached the point where I have nothing to do. No obligations, I mean. Enjoy, that's all.

This is actually quite comparable to a first date: when getting ready for a special occasion, girls tend to spend a hell of a long time thinking about every single detail (not to say they start pre-preparing it days beforehand). The only difference is, of course, I have been anxious to meet with Mr summer ever since the 12th of september of this past 2012. And now the stop-watch has reached its predetermined end, whilst I'm enjoying a glass of white wine together with freshly made Gazpacho and a smoked salmon salad as a second course.  I've had a date with summer and Clara Ripollès: mission accomplished. It is when trying to assume that summer has stranded on my front porche, that I also realise the day I would forget all about timetables and scheduels, forget about wearing a watch in order to not arrive fashionably late to class; this day has finally come: All i need to do is enjoy.

Let us Waltz in our own way.

Never giving up no matter how steep the fall could be, or how many times you stumble over an unforeseen rock, or attempted to achieve something and having failed or not reached your high expectations: That is what it takes to make a step forward with pride.

Throughout these past two years I have been taught many things, but, no-one has injected my will to keep going on, Improve, or Grow. Now, with a grin of satisfaction, I look back, and the memories have turned out to be a polished choreography. A choreography where, at first, my lack of experience kept getting stepped on its naked feet. Being swayed from one side to another in a sequence of incoherent steps, in an insecure motion, was simply an exasperating challenge. But eagerly and with determination, I went along with it and at last, the threesome steps collided together, swaying from side to side until the choreography was complete. My own handful of experiences have turned out to be a Waltz of my own.

lots of love,

Dear  je n'aime pas le pink diary,
It has been two, hectic, years - and we (my school year) finally made it to graduation day. Just when I thought things couldn't get any more stressful as hunting high and low for an appropriate dress at the last moment, the shop racks seemed to have diminished my size clothes. It just wasn't on. I will also care to remark the fact that I am quite picky when it comes to dresses... that is why I rather wear a pair of pants when going out at night (you don't have to worry about them clambering up your thighs.). This is when I praise Paul Poiret for having launched one of the very first trousers design for Occidental women (THANK YOU!).

Anyway, I found a dress. A plain, white, straight cut with subtle darts, shoulder pads and a-palm-above-knees length, dress. Simple yet different.Sophisticated yet modest. It wasn't love at first sight, It was more like a "let's just try it on for the sake of it, I have no other options.". And there, I felt me in it.

The Graduation was, indeed, a special occasion. However, informally celebrated. The commemoration turned out to be a laugh, in a good way. It consisted of several musical acts, prizes, and short videos. It was hosted by Léa dimant, Jordi Aguadé, Lluis de la Iglesia and also me. Let alone the nerves, the experience was priceless! It was at that precise moment, when we got out on the stage, when I actually realized that that was it: The end of two, unforgettable, years at CIC.

I'm going to miss everyone dearly but I'm really looking forward to see what challenges I can take on.

big humongous kiss!

Surprises from the past.

Here is a DIN A5 sketch I drew some time ago. I can't recall exactly when, as I have a tendency of forgetting to write down the date.. ups! Anyhow, I believe it suits the (very much highlighted) concept of this blog: Alter Ego. This has made me draw the conclusion that I might have drawn it slightly before starting this blog.
I hope you like it!

ps: For the curious ones... Remember I always write a resumed formal description below the illustration!

Hey there again! Here's a quick description of this drawing:
As you can see, this is a juxtaposition of two faces one of which is half complete. This comes to show that both characters complement each other. It only makes sense if both are together (Alter Ego).
By outlining the visible features with black, as well as the shadows, I wanted to include a little 'Pop Art' flair to it. I find that the saturated colours add drama to the whole. As you can see, I also used different techniques to colour in some of the parts: scribbles, coloured pencils and watercolours.

I quite like the result of it, and can't wait to find what else I seem to have hidden away...

feminine flair

With a brush-stroke of black, a dash of rouge and a final touch of accuracy.
-simplicitie's essential ingredients.-

I adore (and therefore am truly inspired by) René Gruau's fashion illustrations. I care to mention him in this post as his drawings are not only a composition of lines, they are also a reflexion of femininity.
This comes to show that simplicity takes a matter of seconds in order to sketch.

This outlined profile is a the result of several impulsive brush-strokes,dominated by a black calligraphic line and a touch of colour. I find that the zest of colour adds somewhat of allure to these kind of drawings.

I remember drawing this after having got ready for a 'drinks-evening'.  Possibly as I was adding a tad of
perfume under my jaw line, maybe because I liked how my high pants enhanced my nipped in waist, or even because I had just slipped on my high-heels: I just felt so great to be a woman.

That is when I felt the need of (with a brush-stroke of black, a dash of rouge and a final touch of accuracy) depicting the simple fact of feeling feminine.

Hugs and kisses

Anything But Monochrome

Anything but Monochrome

By displaying the pictures of 'Impares' featured in the previous post, I am actually showing you my means of inspiration for these illustrations.

Contrast, ambiguity, Black, White, Black and White, attitude, dynamism. Alter Ego.

Modelling, Love for Fashion and Fashion Photography.

Modelling, Love for Fashion and Fashion Photography.

Inspiration is what I call a strange phenomenon. At times it comes like a joker card that slips spontaneously out of my P-J's sleeve. It may hit me and, on the spur of a moment, sketch something into my (always present in my Mary Poppins handbag) note book. But, if it is not a song, a landscape, feelings, photography  or even friends which provide me ideas... Personal experience is an infallible resource.

The illustrations featured are basically the result of Modelling, love for Fashion and Fashion Photography. Not that long ago, (it has probably been two years already) I had my first Modelling experience. Whether it was for Blogs or other Media such as Magazines or a TV advert, made no difference in front of the camera.
I figured it would just be a way of interpreting myself in front of the lens. Some express themselves by writing, others drawing, some talking... Well, I discovered another means of communicating my dubious personalities by posing before a camera. It's sort of like acting. Anyhow, I feel I must point out that every single one of my experiences as a Model have been.. unforgettable.  Unforgettable to such an extent that it has been, and is, a source of inspiration. Mainly due to the variety of people I met, anecdotes which make me giggle whenever they pop up in my mind,  the lovely clothes...But also because it has brought me closer to Fashion Photography: an Art which reflects attitude, sense of Fashion and a wide range of body language.

I like to call these: Anything But Monochrome

Hope you like them!

Super Woman

Super Women.

This week has been, well... Insane! Sometimes I really wonder if we have secret super powers.
Whatever mine is, it has definitely nothing to do with calming down my own nerves.
My colleague, Clara, and I have been working on the 'Treball de Recerca' project  for about six months now.
On Tuesday we crossed the finish line! we did our oral presentation on our 150 pages long research. In case you're not familiar with the 'Treball de Recerca', It's a research based on the scientific method. By this I'm referring to: Starting off with a question, speculate a hypothesis, prove it right (or wrong) and draw conclusions. Basically,a Thesis.
We decided to study the beauty cannon promoted to society by fashion magazines, the reaction this “ideal” body creates and whether it is appealing or not. As for the conclusions, I have prepared a special post which I have decided to leave it for later on this month.

My point is, besides nearly being harassed by my own nerves, it was so, so, SO gratifying. Once we stepped out of the classroom, we couldn't believe it: we had FINISHED! FINITO!.

Only by recalling the whole process, the amount of time we spent on it and how we managed to combine it all with our studies, made me draw a conclusion: we are, no doubt, Super Women!

The following illustrations demonstrate how I or, better said, we (Clara and I)were adamant to our target. No matter what, nothing would keep us from finishing our 'TR'. Whatever obstacles crossed our paths, we were determined to fight against them.
